The St. John’s Transportation Commission is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of
Stock Handler in our Maintenance Department.
This position performs various manual and clerical tasks in assisting with the general operation of
the stockroom including receiving, shipping, checking, storing, issuing and recording stock materials
and parts. Duties include receiving requisitions and work orders and issuing parts and materials as
required; maintaining stockroom and storage facilities in an orderly and efficient condition;
coordinating and tracking the issue and return of specialty and Company-owned tools; maintaining
the inventory of stock items and parts; placing orders with suppliers for below-minimum-stock items
or special orders to ensure best fit for company requirements and favourable terms including pricing,
discounts, and shipping; following up on any order changes, cancellations, process returns and fees;
receiving and reconciling orders and inspecting for damages or defects; resolving problems with
damaged goods, and late or incorrect orders; assisting with the preparation of specifications for
capital purchases and tender items; tracking warranty information on parts and equipment; entering
information into inventory control system; conducting physical inventory counts; ensuring hazardous
materials are handled and stored properly; maintaining Safety Data Sheets on hazardous products;
and following safe work practices in completing assigned duties.
This position requires good organizational skills and the ability to work with a minimum of
supervision, as well as graduation from high school, supplemented by a minimum of two years’
experience and/or training in the handling and storekeeping of a broad range of inventory items,
preferably in the bus or truck transport industry. WHMIS certification and knowledge of safe lifting
techniques is required in addition to some mechanical aptitude and the ability to lift approximately
50+ pounds. Familiarity with LEED© systems would be an asset. We value experience, but we also
